Adela Mearig Killed in Rollover Crash on 10 Freeway Near Roadforks
HIDALGO COUNTY, NM (September 1, 2020) — A 56-year-old woman perished in a rollover crash on the 10 Freeway near Roadforks Sunday afternoon.
According to the New Mexico State Police, a sports utility vehicle heading eastbound around 1:30 p.m. left the roadway and overturned several times for unknown reasons.
Unfortunately, 56-year-old Adela Murrel Mearig — the rear seat passenger of the SUV — sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
Meanwhile, a 57-year-old woman from El Paso, sitting in the front passenger seat, sustained unknown injuries and required medical transportation while the unidentified 57-year-old man driving the vehicle escaped harm.
During the investigation, the New Mexico State Police determined that alcohol did not play a role in the crash and seat belts were properly used.
Still, investigators remain uncertain as to what drove the car to overturn in the first place. If anyone would like to help investigators, please contact the State Police.
