Summer Taylor Killed, Diaz Love Injured in Accident During a Protest on 5 Freeway [Seattle, WA]
Dawit Kelete Arrested in Fatal Accident in Seattle Protest
SEATTLE, WA (July 4, 2020) – Police identified Summer Taylor as the victim who died in an accident during a protest on 5 Freeway on early Saturday morning.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened at approximately 1:30 AM.
Based on reports, a 27-year-old man drove his car through protesters and struck 24-year-old Taylor, of Seattle. In addition, he struck another protester, 32-year-old Diaz Love, of Portland, Oregon.
Crews sent both victims to Harborview Medical Center, where Taylor died due to severe injuries. Love remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit at the hospital.
A report from WSP said the driver, Dawit Kelete, drove through the closure on the freeway. Police arrested and booked him into the King County Correctional Facility on two counts of vehicular assault.
Police did not state if it was a purpose attack. However, they continue to investigate the case.
