Hit-and-Run DUI Driver Strikes, Injures Pedestrians in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 17, 2020)—A hit-and-run, DUI driver struck and injured three pedestrians near Euclid Avenue and Churchward Street Wednesday night.
According to authorities, the incident first unfolded in the Lincoln Park area. Dispatchers received a call around 10:30 p.m. about a person who had assaulted another in the 600 block of Sacramento Avenue. The caller informed authorities about the suspect driving a black pickup truck.
Shortly after, a sheriff’s helicopter spotted a vehicle mirroring the description.
The driver of the black pickup fled on Highway 125 before hopping onto Highway 54 West. From there, the driver entered the 5 Freeway before traveling north on the 15 Freeway and exiting Ocean View Boulevard.
Just as circumstances began to ramp up, the pickup truck hit a chain-link fence in the center divider of Euclid Avenue and Churchward Street. As a result, the impact sent the pickup striking a group of pedestrians nearby.
The relentless driver, however, kept fleeing before crashing the truck at the intersection of Commercial and 32nd streets.
Authorities grew successful in capturing the suspect a few blocks away, arresting him on felony hit-and-run and DUI.
As for those injured, one pedestrian sustained serious injuries while two others suffered less severe injuries.
