Crystal Geer Injured in Fatal Highway 99 Accident [Merced, CA]
Crystal Geer Injured, Mason Myrick and Omar Govea Involved in Fatal Homeless Encampment Accident
MERCED, CA (April 13, 2020) — A collision between a big rig and a sedan on Highway 99 near East Childs Avenue resulted in one fatality Wednesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 9:42 p.m. Officers received word of the accident and responded to find a semi-truck and a sedan blocking the No. 2 southbound lane of the highway.
Authorities investigated the collision and determined that a big rig, driven by 25-year-old Mason Myrick, was traveling in the No. 2 lane. Meanwhile, a Cadillac sedan, driven by 21-year-old Omar Govea, was traveling in the No. 1 lane when one of the drivers made an unsafe lane change.
As a result, the big rig lost control and drove off the road. However, it is unclear which of the vehicles applied the unsafe lane change.
As the semi-truck veered out of control, it struck the homeless man and 38-year-old Crystal Geer – both of whom had been sleeping in the homeless encampment at the time.
Paramedics responded and treated Geer, of Merced, at the scene, where she refused further treatment.
As for Myrick, of Hanford, and Govea, of Merced, neither driver sustained injuries and police do not believe impairment played a role.
The man’s identity remains unknown at this time due to the notification of family or next-of-kin.
