Man Fatally Struck in Oakland Crash on 580 Freeway
OAKLAND, CA (April 2, 2020) — A hit-and-run driver fatally struck and killed a man in a crash on 580 Freeway near the 80 Freeway interchange Tuesday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident befell just moments after the victim had crashed into another driver. CHP officers say the man exited his car following the 9:30 p.m. crash, which took place on the westbound 580 Freeway.
However, while outside of his vehicle, a dark green van or a dark green Ford F-150 truck struck him and kept going. The unidentified victim died as a result of his injuries.
Per CHP Officer Sean Layton, they do not have a description of the hit-and-run driver. However, have ruled out impairment as a contributing source to the hit and run.
Regarding the other driver involved in the initial crash, that person did not suffer any injuries and remained at the scene.
