Marino Dias Killed in Head-On Crash on South Avenue [Corning, CA]
Big Rig Involved in Fatal Car Crash near Mary Avenue
CORNING, CA (March 29, 2020) – Police identified Mexican national Marino Dias as the person killed in a head-on crash on South Avenue on Sunday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred near Mary Avenue around 10:30 PM.
Reports from Tehama County Police showed that Diaz was traveling east on South Avenue when his 2011 Nissan Altima Nissan swerved into the opposing lane directly in the path of a westbound 2015 Mack big-rig hauling a tanker-trailer full of diesel fuel and caused a collision.
The Tehama County Department Coroner Office declared 45-year-old Dias dead at the scene. The driver of the Mack, Richard L. Murphy, 65, of Chico, was treated for minor injuries before he was released.
Traffic was rerouted for more than three hours to make sure the tanker was secure without leaks.
An investigation is ongoing.
