1 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash on Highway 78 [Ramona, CA]
Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 78 near Magnolia Avenue in Ramona
RAMONA, CA (January 7, 2021) – Police confirmed that one person was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 78 on Thursday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Magnolia Avenue shortly before 7:00 PM.
Based on a report, the male victim was headed west in a 1998 Honda Civic. Due to unknown reasons, his car then crossed into the eastbound lane and eventually struck a Ram pickup head-on.
As a result, the Honda driver suffered fatal injuries. Officials only identified the victim as a 28-year-old Vista man. Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck suffered major injuries. A medical helicopter crew flew the 56-year-old woman to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for further treatment.
In addition, both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. It was not yet known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
