Vallejo Man Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on 80 Freeway [Vallejo, CA]
46-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Wrong-Way Accident on 80 Freeway in Vallejo
VALLEJO, CA (January 8, 2021) – Police confirmed that a man died following a wrong-way crash on 80 Freeway early Friday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near the Carquinez Bridge around 12:31 AM. Officers arrived shortly after.
For reasons unknown, a 78-year-old Concord woman in a 2015 silver Toyota Camry was traveling west in the eastbound lanes prior to the collision. As she continued west, she collided head-on with a 2017 silver Ford Focus.
Due to the impact of the collision, the driver of the Ford suffered life-threatening injuries. Officials say the 46-year-old Vallejo man was trapped in the driver’s seat. Paramedics transported him to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Crews also transported the Toyota driver to the hospital with major injuries. In addition, a passenger in the Ford, a 39-year-old woman from Vallejo, suffered minor injuries.
The crash closed several lanes of the highway. However, the lanes have since been reopened.
Police have not yet released the cause of the crash, as an investigation into the case remains ongoing.
