Good Samaritan Killed in 880 Freeway Crash near Floresta Boulevard [San Leandro, CA]
Good Samaritan Dies in Two-Car Crash in San Leandro
SAN LENADRO, CA (January 11, 2021)—A Good Samaritan died Saturday morning following a two-vehicle crash on the 880 Freeway near Floresta Boulevard.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident took place around midnight on the northbound 880 Freeway.
For DUI-related reasons, a driver traveling north struck a second vehicle, causing it to overturn. As a result, the impact ejected two people from one of the cars.
Moments later, a Good Samaritan stopped and exited a vehicle to assist; however, an oncoming driver fatally struck the person.
In addition to those harmed, two people sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received hospital care at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and Highland Hospital in Oakland shortly after.
Meanwhile, police arrested the driver of the first car on DUI charges, but reports indicated that the driver of the second car was nowhere on the scene.
At this time, the sequence of events that drove the accident demands further investigation. If anyone has more insight into the cause, please contact the CHP.
We would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved friends and family of the victim.
