Woman Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on 215 Freeway [Menifee, CA]
Hit-and-Run Driver Sought After Wrong-Way Crash on 215 Freeway in Menifee
MENIFEE, CA (December 31, 2020) – A woman suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run crash on 215 Freeway on early Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just north of Scott Road shortly after 2:30 AM.
Based on a report, Hemet Police Department officers pursued a stolen Dodge Ram pickup truck prior to the crash. Subsequently, the suspect vehicle headed south on Antelope Road without lights and at a high rate of speed. After that, it left the roadway and drove through a fence on the perimeter of the freeway. It then drove southbound in the northbound lanes in the Menifee area, prompting Hemet police to stop the pursuit. The driver and passenger then exited the vehicle while it was still moving and fled on foot. At that time, a 2016 Dodge van collided head-on with the blacked-out wrong-way vehicle.
As a result, the 55-year-old woman from Lake Elsinore who was driving the Dodge sustained major injuries in the incident. Cal Fire personnel extricated and transported the victim to Inland Valley Medical Center.
Later on, police located and detained the passenger of the suspect vehicle. At that point, officials were still looking for the driver of that vehicle.
Watch out for wrong-way drivers to avoid a head-on crash. In addition, do not leave the scene after the accident. Wait for the authorities.
