Wrong-Way Driving Leads to Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 49 in Grass Valley
LAKE BALBOA, CA (December 31, 2020) – Police arrested 80-year-old Raymond Poquette following a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Highway 49 on Thursday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened shortly after 11:00 PM.
Based on a report, the 80-year-old Grass Valley resident was driving a 35-foot motorhome on the right lane of the highway prior to the crash. Due to unknown reasons, he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 2011 Nissan Altima head-on.
As a result, a 56-year-old woman who was driving the Nissan died in the crash. Officials did not release her name pending kin notification. In addition, the motorhome also struck a 2010 Dodge Charger driving behind the Nissan. The unidentified driver of the Dodge sustained minor injuries in the incident.
A joint investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies in Nevada County resulted in Poquette’s arrest. Consequently, police arrested booked him into Nevada County Jail on one count of murder.
