Two Injured, Horse, Dog Killed in Crash Involving Big Rig on Highway 67 [Poway, CA]
Big Rig Collides with Vehicle Hauling Livestock Trailer on Highway 67 near Poway Road in Poway
POWAY, CA (December 8, 2020) – Two people suffered injuries in a crash involving a big rig on Highway 67 on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near just north of Poway Road shortly after 01:00 PM.
Based on a report, a big rig and a vehicle hauling a livestock trailer collided in the lanes. The San Diego County Sheriff‘s Office said the big rig was heading southbound when, for unknown reasons, the driver applied the brakes and veered into the northbound lane. Subsequently, it collided with a Dodge Ram pickup hauling a livestock trailer. After that, the pickup went off the roadway and overturned down a shallow ravine. The livestock trailer was torn away from the pickup and also ended up off the roadway.
As a result, a horse and a dog in the trailer died dead at the scene. In addition, crews sent the pickup’s driver and a passenger to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials did not suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash. However, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
Be cautious around big vehicles like big rigs to avoid getting into a crash. However, manage your speed and always follow road regulations. Above all, always check your tires to prevent accidents caused by a tire blowout.
