Noel Bascon Killed, Richard Lavalle and Lee Murphy Arrested in DUI Bicycle Crash on Arlington Drive Near Juniper Drive
COSTA MESA, CA (December 8, 2020) — A child riding a bicycle died Sunday after a DUI driver hit him on Arlington Drive near Juniper Drive.
According to the Costa Mesa police department, the fatal incident happened around 5:55 p.m.
Along Arlington Drive, 59-year-old Richard Lavalle of Long Beach struck 12-year-old Noel Bascon, who was riding with his father as they entered a marked crosswalk.
Per reports, Lavalle failed to stop his rented truck at the stop sign. As a result, he struck the boy, who landed several feet away from the point of impact.
A witness helped and administered CPR to the boy before paramedics took over. Not long after, Bascon succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.
As for Lavalle, police arrested and booked him on suspicion of murder and driving under the influence and with a parole violation.
His 56-year-old passenger — Lee Anna Diaz Murphy of Artesia — also faces charges. Murphy faces charges of possession of controlled substances and unlawful paraphernalia.
