10-Year-Old Boy Dies in Rear-End Crash on Highway 99 [Bakersfield, CA]
Bakersfield Fatal Crash on Highway 99 near Rosedale Highway
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 28, 2020) – Police confirmed that a 10-year-old boy died in a rear-end crash on Highway 99 on Saturday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just north of Rosedale Highway.
Based on a report, the traffic had come to a complete stop on the southbound lanes of the highway at the time of the crash. The victim was a passenger in a vehicle stopped at the intersection. Due to unknown reasons, another vehicle approached stopped traffic and crashed into the rear of the first vehicle. Subsequently, the impact pushed it into the rear of the trailer.
The driver of the first vehicle and her juvenile passenger received major injuries. Crews transported both victims to Kern Medical, where the boy died. The two other drivers were not hurt in the incident.
At this time, authorities do not suspect that drugs or alcohol played a factor in this crash. However, the collision remains under investigation. In addition, the boy’s family set-up a GoFundMe to ask for help for the boy’s memorial.
We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the victim.
