Patrol Vehicle Struck by DUI Driver on Paseo Verde Drive near Buena Vista Drive in Merced
MERCED, CA (October 27, 2020) – Police arrested Bryan Berlier for DUI after he struck a patrol car on Paseo Verde Drive on Tuesday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Buena Vista Drive around 6:45 PM.
Based on a report, the 61-year-old man from Merced was traveling southbound on Paseo Verde in a 2001 Ford F250 prior to the crash. At the same time, Merced County Sheriff’s Sgt. Aguilar was traveling eastbound in a marked 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe patrol vehicle at about 35 mph. Due to unknown reasons, Berlier failed to stop at the posted stop sign and drove directly into the path of the patrol vehicle. Subsequently, the Ford’s front side collided with the front of the Tahoe.
Crews transported Aguilar to Mercy Medical Center Merced for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.
A field sobriety test was done at the scene and officials arrested Berlier on suspicion of driving under the influence. They booked him into Merced County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI causing bodily injury, DUI, and misdemeanor driving with a suspended license.
