Man Dies in Big Rig Collision in Byron
BYRON, CA (October 23, 2020)—A driver died Thursday morning following a big rig crash on Byron Highway near Holey Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the 6:25 a.m. accident involved two vehicles, including a 2017 Freightliner.
For unknown reasons, the southbound Freightliner crossed over the double yellow lines and into the northbound lane, where it sideswiped a northbound Ford F-150.
Subsequently, the big rig traveled back toward the southbound lanes yet careered into an open field just west of the highway before overturning.
Due to the manner in which the Freightliner crashed, the cab was crushed, killing the male driver inside.
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they pronounced the unidentified victim deceased upon arrival.
Per reports, the Ford driver escaped harm in the accident.
