92-Year-Old Woman Killed in Rear-End Crash on Auburn Folsom Road [Granite Bay, CA]
Two Vehicles Involved in Fatal Rear-End Crash on Auburn Folsom Road in Granite Bay
GRANITE BAY, CA (October 13, 2020) – Police confirmed that a 92-year-old woman died in a rear-end crash on Auburn Folsom Road on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just east of Flamingo Road at approximately 1:20 PM.
Based on a report, the 92-year-old Folsom woman stopped her dark red 2017 Toyota Prius while going south on Auburn Folsom for a traffic light. At the same time, a 36-year-old man was driving a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta and was also heading south. The CHP said the man’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed while it approached the Toyota’s location.
Subsequently, he failed to stop at the intersection and rear-ended the Toyota. The force of the impact pushed the Toyota across a sidewalk and through a concrete perimeter wall before it came to a stop.
As a result, both drivers suffered serious injuries in the crash. Unfortunately, the elderly woman died of her injuries soon after. Officials did not yet release her name pending kin notification.
At this time, officers are still trying to figure out the factor in the crash. However, an investigation is ongoing.
To the family and friends of the victim, we would like to express our deepest condolences during this painful time.
