Speeding Ends in Fatal Car Accident on 205 Freeway Overpass in Tracy
TRACY, CA (October 7, 2020) – Police identified Gregory Leiva as the man who died after his car fell off the 205 Freeway overpass on Wednesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near 5 Freeway just before 6:00 AM.
Based on a report, the victim’s vehicle was traveling at what appeared to be a high rate of speed prior to the crash. According to a witness, he attempted to go around slower moving traffic. While trying to pass a big rig, his vehicle instead clipped the rear of a tractor-trailer. Subsequently, it went over the guard rail and fell 20 to 30 feet down to the northbound lanes of 5 Freeway.
As a result, the vehicle caught fire. Unfortunately, witnesses were unable to save the victim. Officials identified him as Gregory Leiva, 32 of Stockton.
The investigation is ongoing and CHP is continuing to gather more witness interviews. As of today, detectives don’t have additional information to share.
