Juan Carranza, Ramon Arreola and Yolanda Gutierrez Die in Shafter Car Crash
SHAFTER, CA (October 8, 2020) — A total of three people have died from Monday’s car crash at Poplar Avenue and Orange Avenue East.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the three people who died have been identified. 19-year-old Yolanda Gutierrez of Shafter, 27-year-old Juan Gabriel Luna Carranza, and 27-year-old Ramon Suastegui Arreola all died in the accident.
The tragic incident unfolded around 4:00 p.m. Monday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, an Infiniti sedan heading southbound on Poplar Avenue collided with a westbound-traveling Chevy Impala at Orange Avenue East.
Per statements, the Chevy purportedly ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed, resulting in a broadside crash with the Infiniti.
Due to the brute impact, the Infiniti driver — Carranza — and his front-seat passenger — Arreola — succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Additionally, an unidentified rear-seat passenger of the Infiniti sustained unknown injuries. However, that person’s condition remains unclear at this time.
Gutierrez, whom paramedics brought to Kern Medical, died a short time later from her injuries.
At this time, the primary cause of the accident remains unclear. However, an investigation continues.
