Bicycle Struck by Hit-and-Run Vehicle on Doty Avenue at Rosecrans Avenue in Hawthorne
HAWTHORNE, CA (October 2, 2020) – Emergency crews transported a boy to the hospital after a hit-and-run on Doty Avenue on Friday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at Rosecrans Avenue at approximately 7:30 AM.
Based on a report, the 14-year-old boy was riding his bicycle in a marked crosswalk along Doty Avenue prior to the crash. At that time, a car going east in the left lane of eastbound Rosecrans hit him at a high rate of speed.
As a result, the boy suffered a major head injury. Emergency crews took him to the hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
The driver did not stop at the scene. Police described the vehicle as a white four-door Toyota, possibly a Camry. They ask anyone with information about the identity of the driver to call 911 or the Hawthorne Police Department at (310) 349-2700.
Do not leave the scene after an accident. However, wait for the authorities to arrive. In addition, always stay sober, manage your speed, and avoid reckless driving to avoid getting into an accident.
