Bicyclist Dies in Eureka Accident
EUREKA, CA (October 6, 2020) — One person died following last Thursday’s bicycle accident on Broadway Street near West Henderson Street.
According to news reports, the crash unfolded in the 2400 block of Broadway Street.
Upon arriving, officers and Humboldt Bay Fire personnel found the victim in the parking lot of a building, just west of the roadway. Immediately after finding the bicyclist, paramedics assessed the victim, but efforts fell short as the person died at the scene.
To help with investigations, the driver stayed and cooperated with police questioning.
According to the investigation, the bicyclist was heading northbound on Broadway Street and for some reason, swerved into the No. 2 southbound lane, directly in front of the car. As a result, the car and bicyclist collided, ejecting the cyclist from the bike.
The preliminary investigation proved that alcohol and drugs did not contribute to the accident on the driver’s part; however, whether it had on the cyclist’s end remains unclear.
