2 Killed, Joel Gonzalez-Garcia Arrested in DUI Crashin Watsonville
WATSONVILLE, CA (September 26, 2020) – Police arrested Joel Gonzalez-Garcia, 21, of Watsonville after a fatal DUI crash on San Miguel Canyon Road on Saturday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Mark Ryan Estates around 10:00 PM.
Based on a report, the suspect was driving a Chevrolet truck on the road when he crossed the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic. Subsequently, his vehicle crashed head-on into a Nissan car.
As a result, emergency crews pronounced the driver and the passenger of the Nissan dead on the scene. Officials did not yet release the victims’ identities pending communication with their families. On the other hand, Garcia and four passengers, only identified as being 19-24 years old, sustained moderate to major injuries. Medics took them to Natividad Medical Center for treatment.
Finally, police arrested Garcia for driving while under the influence. However, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
