Car and Commercial Van Involved in Fatal Red-Light Crash on Alum Rock Avenue near Alexander Avenue in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (September 27, 2020) – Police confirmed that two people died in a red-light crash on Alum Rock Avenue on Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Alexander Avenue around 8:15 AM.
Based on a report, a white 2007 work van was seen speeding westbound on Alum Rock. Due to an unknown reason, it ran a red light at the intersection. Consequently, it collided with a red 2002 Nissan Maxima.
As a result, first responders from San Jose police said the male driver and a female passenger in the car died at a local hospital. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office did not yet release the identities of the victims pending notification of their families.
The man driving the van was not hurt in the incident. Finally, police officers arrested and booked him into jail for vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving. In addition, they ask anyone with information about the crash to contact Detective Templeman at (408) 277-4654.
Running a red light is a dangerous road violation that can lead to serious accidents. As a result, follow traffic lights and road regulations, stay sober, manage your speed, and avoid reckless driving to avoid getting into an accident.
