Injuries Sustained in Pedestrian Crash at Breonna Taylor Protest on 5th Street at I Street in Humboldt County
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (September 24, 2020) – Police confirmed that a vehicle struck a pedestrian at the Breonna Taylor protest on 5th Street on Thursday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near I Street at approximately 7:40 PM.
Based on a report, the victim was marching alongside several dozen others during a protest against police brutality. Due to an unknown reason, a blue truck ran over her foot.
As a result, Eureka Police Department said the woman suffered an injury to her ankle. She refused hospitalization but said she would go to the hospital for treatment.
There’s an ongoing investigation into the collision. However, preliminary findings indicate that the pedestrian may have placed herself in the path of the vehicle at the time of the collision.
As a pedestrian, you must always cross the street in designated crosswalks. As a driver, give way to pedestrians and slow down in areas near crosswalks. Above all, keep your eyes on the road at all times.
