One Killed, One Arrested in Car Crash on Old Highway 99 [Olympia, WA]
Two Vehicles Involved in Suspected DUI Crash on Old Highway 99 at Waldrick Road Southeast in Olympia
OLYMPIA, WA (September 19, 2020) – Police confirmed that one person died in a car crash on Old Highway 99 on Saturday night.
According to the Washington Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Waldrick Road Southeast around 9:30 PM.
Based on a report, the victim was a passenger in a car that was headed north on the highway prior to the crash. At the same time, a car that was also traveling north on the highway crashed into the victim’s vehicle. The 37-year-old man driving the second vehicle reportedly tried to run from the scene.
As a result, emergency crews said the 54-year-old man died at the scene. Officials did not yet release the victim’s identity pending kin notification. In addition, the 51-year-old female driver of the victim’s car suffered injuries. Medics transported her to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
Finally, police arrested the driver of the second vehicle on suspicion of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, and felony hit-and-run, according to the State Patrol. Troopers also suspect that he was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
