1 Killed in Tracy DUI Crash on 5 Freeway
TRACY, CA (September 21, 2020) — A DUI crash on 5 Freeway south near Blewett Road involving a tractor-trailer left one person dead on Saturday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, an SUV traveling roughly 80 to 100 mph struck the left corner of a tractor-trailer around 7:10 a.m.
The impact sent the SUV hitting the center divider and causing severe injuries to its passenger.
Per CHP statements, an off-duty officer nearby tried rendering first aid to the SUV passenger; however, despite these attempts, the person died at the scene.
Following the investigation, authorities said the driver of the SUV appeared to have been under the influence. Police arrested him a short time later for DUI charges.
As for the driver of the tractor-trailer, he or she avoided injury.
