Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash With Patrol Car on Highway 178 [Bakersfield, CA]
Rider Killed in Bakersfield Motorcycle Crash on Highway 178
BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 21, 2020) — A motorcyclist died following Saturday’s crash with a deputy patrol vehicle on Highway 178 near Upper Richbar Picnic Area.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 11:06 a.m.
CHP officers responded to the scene and found a KCSO deputy patrol vehicle and its driver at the scene.
Fortunately, the deputy escaped harm in the accident; however, officials determined that a male motorcyclist had perished in the collision.
In the investigation, authorities learned that the motorcyclist, heading westbound, veered into the opposing lane of traffic, and collided with the eastbound patrol vehicle.
Reasons explaining why the rider traveled into the eastbound lane demands further investigation. Although at this time, CHP officers have ruled out speed and drugs and alcohol as suspected factors in the accident.
We would like to take this moment to send our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the victim.
