Driver Killed Following Richmond DUI Car Accident on 80 Freeway
RICHMOND, CA (September 17, 2020) — A driver died following Wednesday’s DUI solo-car accident on the 80 Freeway near Potrero Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 1:33 a.m.
Two people in an unknown make and model, traveling on the East Bay Freeway, crashed near the Potrero Avenue exit while heading westbound.
Investigators learned that the vehicle slammed into the center barrier, fortunately involving no other cars.
According to CHP spokesman Officer Sean Layton, the driver sustained minor injuries but, for unknown reasons, died a short time later.
Per reports, an autopsy was scheduled to determine the ultimate cause that killed the driver.
At this time, authorities have learned that the driver and passenger snorted cocaine prior to the crash. More information will be updated as soon as investigators determine the events that took place and the autopsy details.
