Driver Killed in Solo-Car Accident on 15 Freeway Near Gopher Canyon Road [San Diego, CA]
Man Dead, Another Injured Following San Diego Crash
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 17, 2020) — A Riverside man died Tuesday following a solo-car accident on the 15 Freeway near Gopher Canyon Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, two 21-year-old men in a northbound Lexus ES 350 were traveling at a high rate of speed on the 15 Freeway.
At some point during their travel, the Lexus veered off the road in the Hidden Meadows area around 12:30 a.m. Subsequently, the sedan drove across a dirt and asphalt center median, traveled up a brushy embankment and struck a wired guardrail at the top of the hill.
The cause of the impact sent the vehicle overturning repeatedly down the embankment.
As a result of the accident, the driver died after having been ejected from the vehicle. His passenger sustained severe injuries and continues to receive treatment at Palomar Medical Center.
As of now, authorities have not released any update on the San Jacinto man who perished in this crash.
However, they’ve determined that intoxication might have played a role and that neither of them was wearing a safety belt.
Our hearts and deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.
