67-Year-Old Woman Dies in Bicycle Accident on Second Avenue [Oakland, CA]
Bicyclist Struck and Killed by U-Haul Van on Second Avenue near 12th Street in Oakland
OAKLAND, CA (September 15, 2020) – Police confirmed that a 67-year-old woman died in a bicycle accident on Second Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened near the intersection of East 12th Street around 12:12 PM.
Based on a report, the woman was riding a bicycle southbound on Second Avenue prior to the crash. At the same time, a U-Haul van was making a left-hand turn onto East 12th Street. Due to an unknown reason, the van hit the victim.
Medics sent the woman to a hospital, where she died due to severe injuries. Officials did not release her name pending notification of next of kin.
The van driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the police. According to preliminary investigations, alcohol was not a factor. However, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
