One Killed, One Injured in Rollover Crash on 15 Freeway [Vista, CA]
Vehicle Overturned in Crash on 15 Freeway near Gopher Canyon Road in Vista
VISTA, CA (September 15, 2020) – Police confirmed that one person died in a rollover crash on northbound 15 Freeway on early Tuesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened near Gopher Canyon Road at approximately 12:40 AM.
Based on a report, the 21-year-old man was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his Lexus ES 350. Subsequently, the vehicle veered off the freeway and traveled across a dirt-and-asphalt center median before it went up a brush-covered embankment.
Finally, it struck a wire guardrail at the top of the slope and rolled over repeatedly side-over-side and back down the hill and into freeway lanes.
Medics took the driver and his passenger to Palomar Medical Center, where the driver died. The passenger, a Perris resident, sustained major injuries. Officials did not yet release the identities of both parties.
Police said both men were not wearing a seat belt and they are looking at impairment as a possible factor that contributed to the crash.
We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
