Michael Thomas Dies in Motorcycle Collision With DUI Driver on Highway 84 Near Thornton Avenue
NEWARK, CA (September 15, 2020) — A 40-year-old man died in Sunday’s motorcycle accident involving a DUI driver on Highway 84 near Thornton Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly event happened around 2:20 a.m. on the eastbound side of the highway.
Just east of the Dumbarton Bridge toll plaza, a DUI driver in a BMW rear-ended a motorcyclist.
The rider, whom the Alameda County Coroner’s Office identified as Michael D. Thomas of Palo Alto, died in the crash. Per statements, his passenger sustained unknown injuries.
Per CHP Officer Dustin Kennerly, police officers located the BMW not too far from the crash site. After that, they arrested the male driver on suspicion of DUI.
