RICHLAND, WA (September 9, 2020) – Police identified Robert Montes and Andrea Luther as the motorists hurt after two multi-car accidents occurred on 182 Freeway on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the pile-ups happened near Highway 240 shortly before 5:20 PM.
Based on a report, Montes, 50, of Kennewick, didn’t stop his Toyota pickup in front of a Dodge Challenger slowing ahead of him. Subsequently, he hit the Dodge which then crashed into a Honda Pilot that was stopped in the lanes. Minutes later, Zachary Luther, 39, of Pasco, was driving a Dodge Grand Caravan when traffic in front of him slowed. He then hit a Kia Sorento in front of him and set off a chain of crashes that damaged four cars.
Medics sent Montes to Kadlec Regional Medical Center for injuries. In addition, crews also sent Luther’s passenger, Andrea Luther, 38, of Pasco, to Kadlec Regional Medical Center for unknown injuries. Luther, the two other drivers from the first crash, and the other drivers from the second crash were not hurt in the pile-ups.
Police cited Montes for negligent driving, illegally using studded tires, and not having insurance. Officers also cited Luther for driving too closely.
