One Dead, Two Injured in Head-On Crash on 5 Freeway [Thurston County, WA]
Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Head-On Accident on 5 Freeway in Thurston County
THURSTON COUNTY, WA (August 29, 2020) – Police confirmed that one person died and two others suffered injuries in a head-on crash on 5 Freeway on early Saturday morning.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident happened just south of the Nisqually River just after 3:00 AM.
Based on a report, a 17-year-old from Olympia was driving south on the northbound lane of the freeway prior to the crash. Subsequently, his vehicle collided with a car head-on.
Emergency crews confirmed that the juvenile died at the scene. Officials did not yet release his name pending kin notification. In addition, the driver and passenger of the second car sustained serious injuries. Crews transported them to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
The accident closed the two lanes of the freeway for several hours while Troopers investigated the collision. At this time, no other information is available.
