Army Black Hawk Helicopter Crashes Off Southern California Coast
SAN CLEMENTE, CA (August 27, 2020) – The Department of Defense identified Staff Sgt. Vincent Marketta and Sgt. Tyler Shelton as the victims killed after an Army Black Hawk helicopter crashed.
Based on a report, the crash happened off the Southern California coast on late Thursday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Marketta, 33, of Brick, New Jersey, and Shelton, 22, of San Bernardino, California were Black Hawk helicopter repairers.
At the time of the crash, the two victims were with three other soldiers for a training exercise. Due to an unknown reason, the helicopter crashed off the coast. As a result, Marketta and Shelton died at the scene. Fortunately, the other three soldiers suffered unspecified injuries.
At this time, the department does not have additional information to share. However, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
