Alfonso Benavides Dies in 25 Freeway Rollover Accident [Socorro, NM]
Alfonso Benavides Killed in Solo-Car Crash on 25 Freeway Near Milepost 150
SOCORRO, NM (August 27, 2020) — A 50-year-old man died Friday afternoon following a rollover accident on the 25 Freeway near Milepost 150.
According to police, the solo-car incident befell around 12:30 p.m. The crash involved a 2003 Jeep Wrangler, driven by 50-year-old Alfonso Benavides of Polvadera, N.M.
Per a news release, the Jeep Wrangler struck an object on the road while heading southbound on the freeway through a construction zone. Subsequently, the SUV drove into the center median and overturned several times.
At some point during the crash, Benavides was ejected out of the car and suffered fatal injuries.
According to the Office of the Medical Investigator, Benavides died at a nearby hospital.
Additionally, a female passenger sustained minor injuries, yet the details of her injuries have not been disclosed.
At this time, information leading up to the crash remains unclear; however, alcohol has been ruled out as a possible factor.
