Joe Faz Killed in Highway 180 Crash With Big Rig [Fresno, CA]
Joe Faz Dies in Collision With Big Rig on Highway 180 at South Chateau Fresno Avenue
FRESNO, CA (August 21, 2020) — A man died following Wednesday’s head-on collision on Highway 180 at South Chateau Fresno Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the 1:40 p.m. incident involved a small Chevrolet SUV and a tractor-trailer rig.
CHP spokesman Mike Salas reported that the tractor-trailer began approaching a stopped vehicle, waiting to make a left turn onto Chateau Fresno Avenue from the westbound side.
However, to avoid a collision with the stopped car, the semi-truck driver swerved into the eastbound lane and struck the Chevrolet SUV head-on.
Tragically, a male passenger in the Chevrolet died at the scene. On Thursday, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified him as 68-year-old Joe Faz, of Sanger.
As for the big rig driver, Fresno County Fire had to use the Jaws of Life to free the woman from the big rig before taking her to Community Regional Medical Center.
According to a preliminary investigation, drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as possible factors in the accident, but the investigation continues.
With deepest sympathies, we would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Joe Faz.
