Motorcyclist Killed in Highway 1 Collision Near Garrapata Creek Bridge [Big Sur, CA]
1 Dead, 1 Injured in Motorcycle Collision Involving Vehicle in Big Sur
BIG SUR, CA (August 7, 2020) — A motorcyclist died and another suffered an injury following Monday’s collision on Highway 1 near Garrapata Creek Bridge.
The accident happened just before 2:00 p.m. along the highway. Reports say that a 37-year-old Riverside woman whose car had been parked on the shoulder of the southbound lane had attempted a U-turn in her 2015 Honda.
However, as she began to steer into the northbound lane, two motorcyclists struck the side of her vehicle.
Unfortunately, one of the motorcyclists—a 37-year-old Pacific Grove man operating a 2010 Yamaha—died in the crash. A 61-year-old Monterey man operating a 2015 BMW sustained minor injuries.
According to an investigation, the pair of riders were traveling at speeds of about 55 miles per hour; however, reports did not indicate their direction of travel.
California Highway Patrol officers investigating the accident believe neither alcohol nor drugs had played a role in the accident; however, any witnesses looking to help authorities determine what had happened should call the CHP.
To the family and friends of the victim, we hope you find comfort and strength during this heavy time. Our law firm sends its condolences.
