Citlali Mora and Nelly Amaya’Ramirez Killed, Ebone Whitaker Detained after DUI Pedestrian Accident
LAS VEGAS, NV (August 6, 2020) — A DUI driver struck and killed two teen pedestrians at South Maryland Parkway and East Katie Avenue Monday evening.
According to Metro Police, the fatal incident happened near the Boulevard Mall around 7:00 p.m. The identified teen pedestrians — Citlali Mora and Nelly Amaya-Ramirez — attempted to cross East Katie Avenue from the northwest corner to the southwest corner.
However, according to police, a 2012 Mercedes-Benz heading southbound on South Maryland Parkway left the road and drove over a curb.
Ebone Whitaker‘s Mercedes subsequently struck a traffic sign on the sidewalk and continued south, where her vehicle struck Mora and Amaya-Ramirez in the crosswalk.
The impact sent one of the girls onto the road near a stopped car at a red traffic light. The other girl came to a rest in a McDonald’s drive-thru.
Per reports, Whitaker’s car also struck a tree and a traffic signal, causing damage to two cars waiting at the McDonald’s drive-thru that had been struck by the fallen tree.
Upon arrival, paramedics pronounced one of the teens deceased. They transported the other teen to Sunrise Hospital. However, she later died.
As for Whitaker, paramedics took her to Sunrise Hospital with serious injuries. In the investigation, authorities determined that DUI had played a factor in the accident.
Facing multiple charges, such as DUI and reckless driving, Whitaker has been scheduled to appear in court on August 6.
