Driver Injured Following Fiery Big Rig Crash Into Hotel on Highway 395 Near West Locust Street [Lone Pine, CA]
Driver Injured in Fiery Big Rig Accident in Lone Pine
LONE PINE, CA (August 4, 2020)—A big rig driver suffered major injuries following a fiery crash into a nearby motel on Highway 395 near West Locust Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, paramedics brought the 73-year-old truck driver from Calexico to Southern Inyo Hospital for immediate treatment.
The CHP said the driver of the 2009 Freightliner was hauling hay, heading southbound on the highway in the slow lane; however, under uncertain conditions, the truck drove off the road, veered onto the sidewalk and struck several poles, as well as a business sign.
As the semi-truck brought down several power lines to the ground, it also crossed West Locust Street and struck Mount Whitney Motel.
Subsequently, the vehicle caught on fire, setting the motel and hay into flames.
Fortunately, two bystanders pulled the 73-year-old driver out of the fire to safety before paramedics brought him to a nearby hospital. Additionally, crews evacuated the motel.
The cause of the crash demands further investigation, but if anyone has information, please contact local authorities.
