15-Year-Old Driver Arrested After DUI Crash on East Gerard Avenue and South Arboleda Drive in Merced
MERCED, CA (July 26, 2020) – Police identified Francisco Miranda as the 18-year-old passenger who suffered injuries in a DUI crash on Gerard Avenue on Sunday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at South Arboleda Drive at about 4:30 PM.
Based on reports, the victim was a passenger of a Ford Explorer driven by a 15-year-old male from Planada. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and traveled onto the southbound shoulder. Consequently, it overturned and collided with a power pole, knocking down power lines.
The victim, Francisco Rodriguez Miranda, 18, of Planada, sustained major injuries. Crews took him by helicopter to a Modesto area hospital.
Police arrested the juvenile driver on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving without a license. However, the case remains under investigation at this point.
