Driver Dies in Sunnyside Two-Car Accident at Scoon Road
SUNNYSIDE, WA (July 28, 2020) – A two-vehicle collision at Scoon Road and Independence Road turned fatal Sunday morning.
According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened around 11:30 a.m.
Officers believe that the driver of a full-size passenger truck failed to stop at the stop sign on Scoon Road. That pickup truck subsequently collided with a second pickup truck as a result.
Deputies confirmed that two people inside the second truck sustained unknown injuries and required hospital care.
Meanwhile, three people inside the first truck, including two children, also required hospital transportation due to their injuries.
Unfortunately, the driver who failed to stop at the stop sign died in the accident.
At this time, authorities investigating the crash have determined that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role; however, a follow-up investigation remains as detectives determine other outstanding factors that could have led to the accident.
