Tanner Smith Hurt, Jami Pfau Involved in Bicycle Crash on Highway 101 Near Dr. Fine Bridge

 
CRESCENT CITY, CA (July 24, 2020) — A 21-year-old bicyclist sustained moderate injuries Thursday after being struck by a driver on Highway 101 near Dr. Fine Bridge.
 
According to a news release of the collision, the incident happened around 11:02 a.m. during clear weather conditions.
 
Under unknown circumstances, a female driver from Brookings, Ore., who was driving her 2019 Ford Fusion in the southbound highway lane, allowed her vehicle to travel toward the shoulder of the road.
 
There, the 21-year-old bicyclist, whom the news release had identified as Tanner Smith, was pedaling southbound, north of Dr. Fine Bridge.
 
Subsequently, the Ford, driven by 47-year-old Jami Pfau, struck Tanner, causing him road rash, lacerations to his face and abrasions to his arms.
 
Upon impact, the Ford drove up a nearby embankment and overturned onto the road causing Pfau pain to her back and neck.
 
Shortly thereafter, California Highway Patrol and emergency personnel arrived and provided medical assistance to both patients. Paramedics then transported both to Sutter Coast hospital for further evaluation.
 
According to investigations, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors of the crash at this time; however, the case remains under investigation.
