Monserrat Valencia Detained Following Hit-and-Run Accident at Florentine Road and North Navajo Drive
PRESCOTT, AZ (July 21, 2020) — Police arrested the driver involved in Friday’s hit-and-run accident at Florentine Road and North Navajo Drive.
The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. and left a 3-year-old child with a foot injury.
According to witnesses, a yellow Dodge Charger or Challenger was heading southbound on Navajo Drive at 60 mph. The Dodge vehicle subsequently ran a red traffic light at Florentine Road and broadsided a westbound Honda Civic, which carried the child passenger.
The Dodge left the scene and continued south on Navajo Drive before making a turn onto Highway 69.
Shortly after, a patrol officer spotted a similar-looking vehicle near the Blue Hills gas station; however, the officer lost sight of the vehicle when it turned south on Kachina Drive at high speeds.
When the Yavapai County Sheriff deputies eventually spotted the car around Henderson Road, they found the driver nowhere in sight.
However, by Saturday, officers located Monserrat Guadalupe Valencia at a residence near Robert Road. Following an interview with the 30-year-old, police arrested and booked him into Prescott County Jail for five felonies and a misdemeanor.
As for the child, he or she will continue to receive treatment at Yavapai Regional Medical Center-East and is expected to recover.
