One Killed, Three Injured in Semi-Truck Crash on 68th Avenue [Oakland, CA]
Semi-Truck and Car Involved in Fatal Oakland Crash
OAKLAND, CA (July 13, 2020) – Police confirmed that one person died in a semi-truck crash on 68th Avenue on late Monday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Foothill Boulevard at about 11:28 PM.
Based on a report, an International semi-truck was traveling southbound on 68th when a Mercedes traveling west on Foothill collided into it. After the collision, the semi-truck crashed into a building. As a result, the truck and building caught fire in the incident.
Paramedics pronounced a passenger in the Mercedes a dead at the scene. They did not release her name without notifying her family.
In addition, crews sent three more victims to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the Mercedes, a 33-year-old Hayward man, suffered severe injuries. Another female passenger in the Mercedes, a 14-year-old girl, also suffered injuries. The driver of the truck, a 37-year-old Visalia man, suffered severe burns.
Firefighters responded and were able to extinguish the fires.
Police said alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the collision. However, the collision remains under investigation.
