Child Dies in Crash Involving DUI Driver on 5 Freeway near County Road 60 in Glenn County

 
GLENN COUNTY, CA (July 11, 2020) – Police confirmed that an 11-year-old boy died in a DUI accident on 5 Freeway just after midnight on Saturday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near County Road 60.
 
Based on a report, a driver of a semi-truck pulling a trailer lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the semi overturned in the lanes. In addition, an SUV that was traveling behind the semi then collided into it.
 
Crews pronounced an 11-year-old boy who was in the back-seat dead at the scene. They did not release the boy’s name pending kin notification. The SUV driver, a 49-year-old man from San Jose, received minor injuries. Crews airlifted a female adult passenger to the hospital for treatment of major injuries. The driver of the semi-truck, a 58-year-old male from the state of Washington, also received minor injuries. Crews transported him to the hospital for treatment.
 
Officials arrested the SUV driver for driving under the influence. However, they continue to investigate the case.
