4 Hospitalized After Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 1 [Watsonville, CA]
Multiple Vehicles Involved in Crash on Highway 1 in Watsonville
WATSONVILLE, CA (July 3, 2020) – Emergency crews sent at least four people to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 1 southbound on early Friday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at approximately 1:00 PM.
Based on a report, the collision occurred after a truck pulling farm equipment sparked a fire and came to an emergency stop. The truck’s stop made the three cars behind it to stop as well. However, a van came up behind and crashed into one of the vehicles and trigged a chain-reaction collision.
Two drivers, a 64-year-old man from Aptos and a 23-year-old woman from Half Moon Bay, suffered major injuries. Two other Watsonville drivers, a 28-year-old man and a 36-year-old man, sustained moderate injuries in the crash. Crews sent all victims to the hospital for treatment.
The CHP doesn’t have additional information at this time. In addition, officers continue to investigate the case.
