Woman Killed After Train Strikes Vehicle Along Highway 99 and Avenue 8 [Delano, CA]
Driver Dies in Delano Crash Involving Train and Big Rig
DELANO, CA (June 29, 2020) — A woman died Saturday when a train struck her vehicle, shortly after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 99 near Avenue 8 sent her car onto the tracks.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman’s car veered off the road and onto the railroad tracks after it had sideswiped a big rig. However, reasons leading to this initial crash have not been confirmed.
Reports say that her vehicle went off the highway around 2:00 a.m. and rested on to the tracks, paralleling Highway 99.
Per reports, bystanders tried rescuing the woman before emergency crews arrived; however, help fell short — an oncoming train struck the woman’s vehicle, killing her at the scene.
