VALLEY SPRINGS, CA (June 25, 2020) — Paramedics ushered two people to a hospital following a DUI solo-car accident on Highway 26 near Quail Oaks Road.
According to Officer E. M. Parsons with the California Highway Patrol, a 1990 Chevrolet Corvette lost control on Highway 26. The hardtop sports car overturned and ejected its driver and passenger, critically injuring the two.
As a result, two helicopters came to airlift the injured occupants to two hospitals.
According to reports, 34-year-old Brandon D. Maggard was flown to Kaiser South Sacramento while medics airlifted 32-year-old Katie J. Thompson to Modesto Memorial Medical Center.
In their investigation, detectives determined that Maggard lost control of the wheel at a bend in the roadway, while heading westbound. The car traveled into the eastbound lane, before driving off the north side of the road and overturning onto its roof in a grassy field.
Alcohol appears to have had played a role in the accident, which led to Maggard’s arrest.

Drugs and alcohol are known to place drivers in precarious situations. Never operate a vehicle when under the influence. If you are under any mind-altering substance, look to a trusted friend or a family member to take you home instead.
