BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 23, 2020) – At least four workers of the Bakersfield Homeless Center suffered injuries in a crash on Highway 178 just before noon on Tuesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crews were picking up trash with a Caltrans truck following behind them. For an unknown reason, another vehicle veered off the road and sideswiped the Caltrans truck. As a result, the truck hit the workers.
Two workers had minor to moderate injuries and the third worker had major injuries. The driver of the truck complained of pain following the crash. Emergency crews sent the victims to Kern Medical for treatment.
CHP said the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with the police. Police did not release any other details at this time. However, an investigation is ongoing.
